A Direct Current (DC) motor is a motor that converts direct current electrical energy into mechanical energy. Specifically, the DC motor being used in our Explorer series is a Brushless Direct Current Motor or BLDC, which is the latest generation of DC motor available today. The BLDC is a relative new type of motor but is already widely used in industries where high torque motors, intelligent speed control and lower maintenance are required. These industries include automotive production, robotics and factory conveyor systems. As of today, Waterline proudly offers this technology in our line of industrial ceiling fans for industrial ventilation and cooling applications.
The BLDC motor is powered via an inverter or switching power supply which provides power to a closed loop controller. The use of this controller provides pulses of current to the motor windings that allows for the control of speed and torque of the motor. Compared to traditional AC induction motors and older generation DC motors, the BLDC offers higher efficiency, less maintenance, better stability and a longer life span. With its revolutionary advantages, the BLDC motor is set to replace traditional AC induction motors and older generation DC motors in the years to come.
